Children are a Heritage

Having so many children wasn’t necessarily planned when we got married. After our 3rd child was born we had attended a seminar and learned about giving that area of our lives over to God and letting him design our family. We had 4 boys, all just about 2 yrs apart. When our 4th was 3 months old I found out I was pregnant again. My Knight was pastoring his first church at that time in life. Some of the ladies there didn’t agree with our decision to let God plan our family. Ugly words were said to my knight and 14 weeks into my pregnancy our baby died. But 11 months later we had our first girl. Then 16 months later another girl, 18 months after her we had twin boys. Then another 18 months go by for another girl, followed 2 yrs later by another boy.

These children kept us on our toes! But I wouldn’t change much of anything. We lived a simple life, our children were NOT spoiled. They were a joy to us. We didn’t spend a lot of time in front of the TV or have game systems to keep them busy. They used their imaginations and were creative. Several of them loved to read and felt like books took them on adventures. We homeschooled from day one. We ended up starting our own business doing handyman type jobs, some remodeling jobs and indoor and exterior painting jobs. We lived in a Mennonite community so our boys were able to go do jobs with my Knight. They learned a lot of math, they learned life skills that they’ve been able to use in their adult lives to this day. Our girls learned to make home made bread and love of baking. In this they also learned math and comprehension well.

Psalm 127:3 – Behold, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
